Garmin suggests rinsing the strap off after every ride and machine wash after every 7 uses. In both cases, hang to dry. I use a linen bag when machine washing, so the closure doesn’t snag any clothing. The HRM-Dual is rated IPX7, 1 ATM water resistant. That means it is suitable for splashes, rain, snow or showering.

I used to drop signal a couple times per hour using Bluetooth from HRM dual to my PC running Zwift. Since I switched to my forerunner 245 watch for heart rate in Zwift I have never dropped. I stopped using the hrm dual entirely on Zwift when cycling (still needed for running). I just bought Garmin HRM Dual today only to be disappointed

The HRM-PRO is the only one of that group from Garmin that’s dual ANT+/Bluetooth Smart, and despite being pricey, it’s what I’d recommend if you’re a Garmin user that wants Garmin Running Dynamics. While the TICKR X does transmit the Running Dynamics standard, just be aware that it lacks a few fields that the Garmin straps do.

The Garmin Connect app, for whatever reason doesn't sync up with their chest straps, and seems to mostly be for watches or for passing on chest strap data through the watch to another app. Yes, the Garmin Connect app is just for the watches. From some quick googling it looks like Strava supports ANT+ devices:
